It could host every Nepali bank's data, every government ministry's records, every major SaaS product built for the Nepali market, and still have capacity to attract regional clients from across South Asia. Nepal's geographic location — between two of the world's largest data markets (India and China) — is actually a strategic advantage for becoming a regional data hub.
The Infrastructure Requirements
A serious data center needs more than server racks. It needs redundant power supply — Nepal's improving grid reliability and hydropower surplus make this increasingly viable. It needs high-bandwidth fiber connectivity — Kathmandu is connected to international fiber backbones through India, and direct undersea cable connections are technically feasible. It needs physical security, cooling systems, and disaster recovery architecture. These are significant but solvable engineering challenges. Nepal has the talent to build and operate such facilities — what it needs is the investment and the political will.

Government policy needs to create incentives for data center investment — tax holidays, streamlined permitting, mandatory data localization for sensitive sectors. Private capital needs to flow into the infrastructure. Technical talent needs to be trained and retained in Nepal rather than exported.
